The Texas Department of Transportation has initiated a heightened enforcement campaign for the Fourth of July weekend, partnering with Sue Beatty to honor her daughter's memory and raise awareness about impaired driving. The initiative, titled "Drive Sober, No Regrets," aims to reduce alcohol-related crashes during the holiday period.
Law enforcement agencies across the state are increasing patrols and efforts to identify and arrest drivers operating under the influence. This intensified activity is scheduled to continue through July 6. The campaign seeks to deliver a clear message to motorists regarding the dangers of drinking and driving.
The effort honors Carly Beatty, a 19-year-old Texas A&M University student who died in 2019 near College Station. An intoxicated driver struck her while she was walking home alongside two friends. Sue Beatty, who resides in Frisco, described her daughter as compassionate and kind, noting that Carly had a lifelong passion for animals and aspired to become a veterinarian from the age of three.
"There is no drink, celebration, or night out that is worth living with regret for the rest of your life," Sue Beatty stated. She emphasized that her daughter was known for her smile and genuine nature.
In 2019, Sue Beatty established the nonprofit organization Carly’s Way. The group was created to fulfill her daughter’s vision of supporting animals. The organization assists local animal shelters and simultaneously works to educate the public about the consequences of impaired driving. Frisco is about 6 miles northeast of The Colony.
