A Midland Rockhounds outfielder is recovering from spinal surgery after sustaining a serious injury during a minor league baseball game in Frisco, Texas. Frisco is located approximately 6 miles northeast of The Colony.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Lasko collided head-first with a teammate while attempting to catch a ball. He did not move immediately after the impact and was treated by medical staff at the stadium before being transported to a hospital.
Lasko, who is a prospect in the Oakland Athletics organization, was diagnosed with a fracture of the C6-C7 vertebrae. He underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery overnight. The team confirmed that he is currently in stable condition.
Oakland Athletics General Manager David Forst stated that he has communicated with Lasko’s mother, Patti, to convey the organization’s support. Forst noted that the entire system is keeping the family in their thoughts and prayers. He added that the organization is encouraged by medical updates and will dedicate all available resources to support Lasko’s recovery.
The Frisco Roughriders also expressed their support through a social media post, stating that their hearts are with Lasko and the Rockhounds. Following the game, players from both teams gathered in a prayer circle.
