Plano is about 12 miles east of The Colony.
Several school districts within the Star Local Media coverage area are scheduled to return to their normal operating hours on Friday, Jan. 30. This decision follows a period of disruption caused by winter weather conditions that had previously forced cancellations.
Earlier in the week, lingering ice and snow on public roadways created unsafe driving conditions, leading multiple districts to cancel classes on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Although higher temperatures and sunshine on Wednesday helped melt some of the accumulation, forecasted near-freezing temperatures during the early morning hours raised concerns about roads refreezing. These conditions prompted additional cancellations on Thursday, Jan. 29, as districts monitored the situation closely before making final decisions.
In local government news, the city of Plano has appointed Michael Talley as its new director of economic development. Talley brings more than ten years of experience in the field, specifically in strategic business recruitment, to the position.
Separately, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Board of Directors has set a public hearing for March 24. The hearing is intended to address potential withdrawal elections. This scheduling occurred shortly after the Addison City Council arranged an election regarding a possible exit from the transit system.
