Plano residents should anticipate changes to municipal services and public spaces this week as the city prepares to mark Independence Day. According to information published on the city’s official website, a number of facilities will either shut down completely or run on reduced hours on July 4.
The city has identified several locations that will be entirely inaccessible to the public on the holiday. These closures affect the Plano Animal Shelter, the Day Labor Center, and the main Plano Municipal Center. Additionally, all five public library branches—Davis, Haggard, Harrington, Parr, and Schimelpfenig—will remain closed. The Texas Pure Products Regional Composting Site and its Custer Road Facility are also listed among the locations that will not be open for business.
Recreation centers and aquatic facilities will remain open but will follow a shortened schedule. Carpenter Park, Oak Point, and Liberty Recreation Centers will operate from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The High Point Tennis Center will open earlier, with hours running from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Both the Jack Carter Pool and the Plano Aquatic Center will offer services during the same 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. window.
The Sam Johnson Recreation Center is included in the list of facilities that will be closed for the day. No specific details were provided regarding the reasons for these adjustments beyond the observance of the holiday.
Plano is situated approximately 12 miles east of The Colony. Residents are advised to check the city website for any further updates regarding service changes.
