The Colony Public Library has announced it will discontinue its subscription to Hoopla Digital starting September 15, 2026. The decision follows an evaluation of rising expenses associated with digital content and services.
According to the library, Hoopla operates on a pay-per-use model where the institution pays for each item borrowed. While monthly borrowing limits and price caps introduced in 2024 helped reduce spending, costs have increased as the number of patrons grows. The library stated that this pricing structure is no longer sustainable for long-term digital collection management.
Patrons will retain access to other digital platforms. Resources such as Libby, CloudLibrary, and North Texas Libraries on the Go will remain available. Additionally, Blackstone Unlimited will be added to the offerings beginning September 1. These services provide e-books and audiobooks through sustainable pricing models.
Items borrowed from Hoopla before the discontinuation date will remain accessible until their standard lending periods expire. The library also noted that other digital resources, including PressReader, America’s News, Mango Languages, LOTE4Kids, and Tumblebooks Library, continue to be available to cardholders.
In municipal news, a public meeting to vote on the proposed tax rate is scheduled for September 1, 2026. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 6053 Main Street in The Colony, Texas.
