Frisco is about 6 miles northeast of The Colony. The city is currently hosting the Nexo Dallas Open, a tennis tournament that offers a $500,000 prize pool and features top American players. The event, which originated from a meeting in 2020, has grown to attract significant interest across the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Past champions Tommy Paul and Riley Opelka are among the competitors. The tournament also includes luxury fan experiences beyond standard seating, supported by a new partnership with Creative Artists Agency aimed at reimagining the spectator experience.

In education news, Frisco Independent School District campuses returned to normal operations on Monday following a brief period of heightened security. The district had placed all schools in a modified secure status after receiving reported online threats. Thousands of parents waited in lines to retrieve their children during the disruption. Police later determined the threats were non-credible and confirmed that students were safe. The incident caused significant logistical challenges for families but resulted in no injuries.

Local law enforcement reported several other incidents over the weekend. A sledding accident on Sunday afternoon left one 16-year-old girl dead and another in critical condition. Police stated that a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep Wrangler while pulling two girls on a sled when the crash occurred. The deceased teen had been on life support since the incident. Her family described her as compassionate and creative.

On New Year's Eve, a stolen vehicle alert led to a brief chase and barricade at a Frisco residence. A 42-year-old suspect was taken into custody without further incident. In a separate matter, a McKinney man was sentenced to life without parole for a 2017 murder in Frisco that had remained unsolved for years. Additionally, Myles Jack faces charges of deadly conduct for discharging a firearm in a municipality.

Business owners in the area are reporting financial impacts from infrastructure issues. La Finca Coffee & Bakery noted a 30% drop in revenue due to torn-up sidewalks and limited parking. Other Main Street businesses have also complained to the city about the impact on commerce. Meanwhile, weather alerts remain in place through Tuesday due to dangerously cold temperatures and icy roads. A North Texas woman is also speaking out about a four-year stalking ordeal that ended with her stalker receiving a 20-year sentence.
