Spencer Shrader provided the decisive margin on Sunday, kicking three field goals in the final period to secure a narrow 19-17 victory for the Indianapolis Colts against the visiting Houston Texans. The win improves the Colts’ record to 1-2, while the Texans fall to 0-3 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The contest remained tightly contested through the first three quarters, with neither side able to build a significant lead. Indianapolis struck first in the opening period when Shrader connected on a 39-yard field goal, putting the home team ahead 3-0. The second quarter saw both offenses find rhythm, though turnovers and defensive stands kept the score tight.

Daniel Jones orchestrated the Colts’ offense effectively, completing 24 of 36 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown. Texans Fight Back

Houston responded with resilience behind C.J. Stroud, who completed 16 of 27 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. Stroud’s one-yard pass to Foster Moreau tied the game at 7-7 before Shrader kicked a 58-yard field goal to restore the Colts’ advantage at 10-7 at halftime.

The third quarter proved scoreless for both teams, setting the stage for a dramatic fourth period. The Texans took control momentarily when Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 24-yard field goal to make it 13-10. Woody Marks then broke through for a one-yard rushing touchdown, giving Houston a 17-13 lead and seemingly sealing the game.

Shrader’s Heroics Down the Stretch

However, Indianapolis refused to surrender. Shrader stepped up with clutch kicking, draining a 37-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 17-16. With time winding down, he added another critical kick from 53 yards out, pushing the Colts ahead 19-17.

Josh Downs was a key target for Jones, hauling in five receptions for 77 yards. For Houston, Xavier Hutchinson led the receiving corps with three catches for 51 yards, while David Montgomery added 33 rushing yards on 11 carries. The final attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium stood at 63,400 as the Colts held on to avoid a third consecutive loss.
