Late Surge Seals Victory
CeeDee Lamb’s 12-yard reception from Dak Prescott in the fourth quarter provided the decisive margin, giving the Dallas Cowboys a 34-30 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. The scoreline reflected a frantic finish at Reliant Stadium, where attendance reached 71,227, as both teams traded blows to keep the game close until the final play.
This result improved Dallas’s record to 2-2, while Houston falls to 0-4 on the season.
First-Half Field Goal Frenzy
The game unfolded with an unusual emphasis on kicking during the first half. Nico Collins opened the scoring with a seven-yard pass from C.J. Stroud, giving Houston a 7-0 lead.
Brandon Aubrey responded with a 39-yard field goal to narrow the gap, but Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 51-yard kick extended the home lead to 10-3. In the second quarter, Aubrey connected from 50 yards out to make it 10-6. Fairbairn then delivered two consecutive field goals, first from 39 yards and then from 54, to push Houston ahead 16-6 at halftime.
The quarter-by-quarter scoring was 10-3 and 6-3 in favor of Houston during the first half.
Third-Quarter Momentum Shift
The third quarter saw a surge of touchdowns that altered the momentum. Javonte Williams rushed for eight yards to cut the deficit to 16-13. However, Stroud and Collins connected again, this time on a 22-yard pass, to restore Houston’s lead at 23-16.
Williams then struck back with a one-yard touchdown run, putting Dallas up 20-23. The quarter ended with Houston holding a 23-20 lead, having outscored Dallas 7-14 in that period.
Stat Highlights and Records
Javonte Williams was the offensive engine for Dallas, rushing for 62 yards on 19 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown. Lamb hauled in 17 passes for 189 yards and his game-winning score.
For Houston, Stroud completed 21 of 31 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Nico Collins caught seven passes for 118 yards and two scores, while David Montgomery rushed for 24 yards on 10 carries. The Cowboys’ 34 points came from three quarters of scoring, with 14 points added in each of the final two periods.
The Texans’ 30 points were distributed as 10, 6, 7, and 7 across the four quarters.
