The Colony's heavy-rain risk will need watching beyond Wednesday night. The National Weather Service has extended the flood watch covering Denton County until 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
The watch starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. All times are Central Daylight Time. In the update issued at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 29, forecasters expect slow-moving showers and storms to produce 2 to 4 inches across the watch area, with localized totals of 4 to 6 inches.
Excess runoff could affect creeks, streams, low-lying places and low-water crossings. That is a statement of possible impacts, not a list of roads already closed in The Colony. Rainfall at an individual address can differ from the regional forecast range.
The city's Alert Center encourages residents to have several ways of receiving emergency information and points to Denton County notifications by phone, text and email. Its emergency-management page also lists 972-625-4471 for after-hours water or sewer emergencies; life-threatening emergencies should go to 911.
Keep local service notices separate from the regional forecast when making plans. A rainfall watch does not automatically cancel an event or establish that every route is unsafe. Organizers and city notices should be checked for any specific change.
Check updates before leaving home, pay attention to any later warning for your location, and never try to drive through a water-covered crossing. A watch is advance notice that flooding is possible, with more specific warnings potentially following as conditions develop.
