Scheels is set to open its first store in Central Texas this weekend in Cedar Park. The new 300,000-square-foot location, situated next to the H-E-B Center, marks the retailer's second store in Texas. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, with a celebration beginning at 7 a.m. and doors opening to the public at 9:30 a.m.
The store will house more than 75 specialty shops and include several in-store attractions. These features comprise a 65-foot Ferris wheel, a saltwater aquarium, a candy factory, and a T-Rex display. Connor Boone, a representative for the company, stated that the location was chosen to provide a unique shopping experience and connect residents with their hobbies.
Scheels expects to employ approximately 550 people at the Cedar Park site. This workforce will consist of nearly 200 full-time associates and about 350 part-time employees. According to Boone, nearly 100 of the full-time positions will be filled by employees transferring from other Scheels locations. The company, which operates 34 other stores, is employee-owned.
Boone noted that the company has spent the past year and a half studying the local market. He highlighted the strong connection many Central Texans have with the University of Texas at Austin, describing the Longhorns as a way of life in the region.
The store will stock gear and equipment to support fans, with Boone emphasizing that the retailer aims to offer options beyond simple t-shirts or jerseys, including additional fashion and accessory items for those wishing to show school pride.
