Nebraska Furniture Mart has opened its newest location in The Colony, a facility that officials describe as the largest of its kind in the state. The store is currently open to the public daily, though a specific date for a formal grand opening has not yet been announced.

Management indicated that the extended period of preparation, which spanned much of March and into April, was necessary to ready the facility and its workforce for customers.

Owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the $400 million retail space spans two levels and covers 560,000 square feet, an area comparable to nine football fields. The company reports that the total floor space amounts to 1,857,319 square feet. To illustrate the scale, store officials noted that this area could accommodate approximately 123,816 standard love seats placed side by side.

A single lap around the interior measures 1.62 miles, or roughly 3,664 steps.

Warren Buffett, whose company owns the retailer, has projected that this location will generate $1 billion in annual sales. He noted that only one other store, the Macy’s in Herald Square in Manhattan, has previously reached that revenue threshold. The new facility is expected to become the highest-volume furniture store in the United States.

The site includes a warehouse that is larger than the retail floor, measuring 1.3 million square feet and holding 500,000 items. Customers may choose to have purchases delivered or pick them up at one of more than 100 bays. The warehouse is designed to load 120 vehicles simultaneously, with a vehicle completing loading every four seconds.

The property also features 4,800 parking spaces, including 2,100 spots within a five-level garage.

The store offers a wide range of products, including electronics, outdoor kitchen appliances, and fitness equipment, in addition to traditional furniture. There are 65 cash registers and 20 interactive kiosks for credit applications and gift registries. Digital price tags allow staff to adjust prices up to twice daily.

The kitchen section alone displays 109 dishwashers, 206 refrigerators, and 220 cooktops from various brands. Electronics displays include 150 active HDTV models and interactive stations from manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, and Nintendo.

Nebraska Furniture Mart employs about 1,750 people in The Colony, according to local government records.
