Rakell Decides Shootout

Rickard Rakell scored the final listed shootout goal, and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. The Penguins improved to 3-2-1 with seven points, while the Stars fell to 2-2-1 with five points.

The shootout also included goals by Ben Kindel, Sidney Crosby, Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston before Rakell’s wrist shot appeared in the scoring sequence. The game’s final score was Pittsburgh 2, Dallas 1.

Third-Period Exchange

Neither team scored in the opening two periods. Pittsburgh broke through in the third when Connor Dewar scored on a backhand, with Blake Lizotte assisting. It was Dewar’s first listed goal and gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

Dallas answered in the third. Seguin scored on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen, to tie the game 1-1. The score remained even through the third period, sending the game to a shootout.

Dewar finished with one goal and one point for Pittsburgh, while Lizotte recorded one assist. Seguin had one goal and one point for Dallas, and Heiskanen had one assist.
