First Period: Early Strike Sets Tone
The Dallas Stars established control immediately upon puck drop at the KeyBank Center, capitalizing on early offensive pressure to take a 1-0 lead. Jason Robertson opened the scoring in the first period with his second goal of the season, finishing off a play assisted by Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston.
Robertson’s snap shot found the back of the net, giving the visiting Stars an early advantage that they would not relinquish. Buffalo managed to survive the opening frame without answering, leaving the scoreboard at 1-0 as the teams headed to the locker room.
Second Period: Offense Explodes for Four
The game’s offensive output was concentrated entirely in the second period, where Dallas overwhelmed the Sabres with three unanswered goals. Sam Steel doubled the lead early in the frame, scoring his first career goal on a snap shot supported by assists from Thomas Harley and Mikko Rantanen.
The Stars did not wait long to strike again; Mikko Rantanen converted a backhand wrist shot, aided by Nils Lundkvist and Wyatt Johnston, to make it 3-0. Roope Hintz capped the period with his first goal of the season, snapping a shot into the net with help from Wyatt Johnston and Rantanen, pushing the final margin to 4-0.
