A Fourth-Quarter Surge Secures the Win
The Dallas Mavericks overcame a sluggish second half to defeat the Houston Rockets 116-111 on Friday night at American Airlines Center. The victory was secured by a decisive offensive run in the final period, where Dallas outscored Houston 40-27 to erase a deficit and pull away late.
The game began with both teams trading baskets in a tightly contested first quarter that ended with Dallas holding a narrow 27-20 lead. The momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter, however, as the Rockets’ defense tightened and their offense stalled. Houston outscored Dallas 31-17 in the frame, taking control of the contest.
Despite a brief rally by the Mavericks, the Rockets entered halftime with a commanding 51-44 advantage.
Mavericks Clamor Back in the Third
Dallas emerged from the locker room with renewed energy, chipping away at the lead throughout the third quarter. The Mavericks’ defense forced turnovers and slowed Houston’s transition game, allowing Dallas to close the gap significantly. By the end of the third period, the score stood at 84-73 in favor of the Rockets, but the margin had shrunk considerably from the halftime deficit.
The deciding factor arrived in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks’ offense ignited, scoring 40 points in the final frame compared to Houston’s 27. Key plays included three-pointers and driving layups that shifted the momentum entirely. With seconds remaining, free throws sealed the outcome, allowing Dallas to escape with a five-point victory.
