The Colony opened its football season with a 32-14 win at Samuell on Thursday night in Dallas, putting the Cougars at 1-0.

It was a non-district game, as are the next three. The part of the season that decides anything does not begin until October.

The rest of the season

  • Thursday, Sept. 3. Keller Fossil Ridge, at home.
  • Friday, Sept. 11. W.T. White, at home. Homecoming.
  • Friday, Sept. 18. At Sherman, Tommy Hudspeth Athletic Complex.
  • Friday, Oct. 2. Colleyville Heritage, at home. District opener.
  • Friday, Oct. 9. At Community, Braves Stadium in Nevada.
  • Friday, Oct. 16. Argyle, at home.
  • Friday, Oct. 23. At Grapevine, Mustang Panther Stadium.
  • Friday, Oct. 30. Eagle Mountain, at home. Senior night.
  • Thursday, Nov. 5. At Lovejoy.

Home games are at the stadium on the high school campus. The district lists every kickoff at 7 p.m.

What to watch for

The six games from Oct. 2 onward are district games, and those are the ones that determine whether the season continues past November. The three before them are not.

Two of the dates are worth marking for reasons beyond the standings. Homecoming falls on Sept. 11 against W.T. White, and senior night is Oct. 30 against Eagle Mountain, the last home game of the year.

The Sept. 18 trip to Sherman is a longer drive than most, about an hour up US 75, and it is the only non-district road game against a team outside the immediate metroplex.

Three of the eleven games on the schedule are Thursdays rather than Fridays, including the season finale at Lovejoy on Nov. 5.
