Texas Military Installations Generate $148.8 Billion in Economic Impact

The Colony, Texas — Military installations across Texas contribute an estimated $148.8 billion to the state economy each year and support 628,884 direct and indirect jobs, according to a study released this week by Gov. Greg Abbott's office.

The analysis, from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission within the Office of the Governor, examined the population and employees tied to military installations statewide, including active-duty personnel, civilian workers, contractors, and dependents. The study estimates 212,524 direct jobs and total employment of 628,884 when indirect roles are included.

Texas is home to 15 major U.S. military installations and the Army Transformation and Training Command headquarters. The Governor's office said each installation serves as both a pillar of national defense and a major local employer that provides value to communities across the state.

The Colony, in Denton County, is a city of about 45,000 on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.

The tradition of military service is long in our great state. Texas is proud to be home to 15 major U.S. military installations and the Army Transformation and Training Command headquarters. Essential to the defense of our nation, each installation also serves as a major local employer and provides tremendous value to communities across Texas.

The Texas Military Preparedness Commission advises the Governor and the Texas Legislature on defense and military issues and works to strengthen the state's installations ahead of any future Base Realignment and Closure process. State leaders have long pointed to the defense sector as a cornerstone of the Texas economy.
