More Lewisville ISD students want into the district's career and technical courses than there are seats, according to an annual update headed to the school board on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The report lists waitlists for programs at the district's career centers, TECC-East and TECC-West, for the 2025-26 school year. Six programs had more than 24 students waiting:

  • Health Science Level 1: 132, down from 164 the year before but up from 26 in 2023-24
  • Electrical: 59
  • Cosmetology: 45
  • Wood Manufacturing: 44, up from 11 the year before
  • Welding: 36
  • Ag Mechanics: 26

Certifications

Students earned 3,167 industry-based certifications that count toward the state's college, career and military readiness measures, and 2,629 students earned at least one, the district says. Three years earlier, in 2022-23, the totals were 1,373 certifications and 863 students. The most common last year was a food safety certification, with 1,113 earned, followed by a general management certification at 348.

The district says every program of study now has at least one matching certification and the goal is to offer two.

The Colony High

The update says three limited liability companies have formed out of the INCubatoredu business class at The Colony High School and four at Lewisville High, and it notes a visit by The Colony High students to Nebraska Furniture Mart and Scheels.

What is new

The presentation lists new programs in biomedical science, lodging and resort management, dental assisting and automotive diesel, plus welding at TECC-East. It also notes state changes, including employability standards added to every career course and a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation rule requiring documentation of lawful presence for students to register in cosmetology courses and get a license.

Texas Health Resources donated a career exploration tool called Pathful, according to the report.

Upcoming dates in the presentation include an AVID career exploration fair Oct. 26, spring community nights at TECC-West on Jan. 14 and TECC-East on Jan. 21, and a districtwide student career fair March 30.

The update is an information item, with no vote. The board meets at 6 p.m. at the LISD Administration Center, 1565-A W. Main St. in Lewisville.
