Keep The Colony Beautiful is inviting residents onto the Shoreline Trail after dark later this month to look and listen for the animals that come out at night.

The Owl & Howl Prowl runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to the city's calendar listing. It is free and open to the public.

Where to meet

Walkers gather at 6:15 p.m. at the Shoreline Trailhead in Ridgepointe, at the corner of Lakeshore Boulevard and Lake Ridge Drive.

Texas Master Naturalist Donna Cole will lead the group. The city describes the outing as an unhurried walk that gives people a chance to be on the trail after hours, search for animals and the tracks and other signs they leave, and learn to tell nocturnal animals apart by the sounds they make.

The route covers about one to two miles round trip.

What to bring

The city suggests:

  • clothes suited to the weather and comfortable walking shoes
  • water
  • a flashlight
  • binoculars and bug spray, both optional

The listing does not say whether registration is required. The listing gives 972-624-3159 for questions.
