Food bank staff will help with SNAP and Medicaid applications at the public library Thursday

Residents who need help applying for food or health benefits can get it in person at The Colony Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 8.

A representative of Tarrant Area Food Bank North will be in the library lobby at 6800 Main St. from 1 to 4 p.m., according to the city's event calendar. The listing says visitors can get on-site application help or ask questions about SNAP, TANF, Medicaid and other programs. The description is posted in both English and Spanish.

The calendar lists Dan Watkins, the assistant library director, as the contact. The library's number is 972-625-1900, extension 3.

Holiday closure

The library will be closed Saturday, Oct. 10, through Monday, Oct. 12, for the Columbus Day holiday. It reopens the following Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to the library's notice.

Medicare seminar on Oct. 17

Later in the month, Benefit Advisors will give a free educational presentation on Medicare options for people nearing eligibility. It runs from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in the library's multipurpose room.
