The Colony's parks department has three more October events on its calendar, from a fishing lesson for young anglers to a costumed movie night at Grandscape. The department is also scheduled to brief the City Council on upcoming events at Wednesday's meeting.

Family Fright Fest, Oct. 24

Stewart Creek Park, 3700 Sparks Road, hosts Family Fright Fest from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. The city's listing promises a costume contest, a hayride, a haunted trail, food trucks, vendors, rides and yard games spread through the park.

Cars pay $15 to enter, and annual park pass holders get in free. People who park outside the gates and walk in pay nothing, according to the listing.

Cinema Nights, Oct. 30

The free Cinema Nights series moves indoors to the Galaxy Theatre at Grandscape, 5740 Grandscape Blvd., on Friday, Oct. 30, for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Seating opens at 6:30 p.m., and the PG-rated film starts at 7:30 p.m. Moviegoers are encouraged to come dressed as witches, wizards or magical creatures for a costume contest.

Fishing 101, Oct. 17

Children and teens ages 6 to 17 can learn the basics of fishing at Stewart Creek Park from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17. Volunteer instructors certified by Texas Parks and Wildlife lead the hands-on workshop, which covers knot tying, rigging and baiting, casting, dock fishing, fish habitat and care, water safety and conservation.

Registration is online, and participants need either an annual Stewart Creek Park pass or a $15 day pass to get into the park. Questions go to the parks department at 972-625-1106.

The same morning, Friendship Baptist Church, 4396 Main St., gives away free food from 10 a.m. to noon in a drive-thru line entered from Cougar Alley near Papa Johns. No registration is required, the city's calendar says.
