Residents of The Colony can get rid of bulky junk for free on Saturday, Oct. 17, when the city holds its citywide fall cleanup in the Hawaiian Waters parking lot, 4400 Paige Road.

Drop-off runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Entry closes at noon, and all traffic will be routed in from the Memorial Drive entrance.

What you can bring

Crews will take large tree limbs, furniture, appliances, lumber, remodeling debris, fencing and scrap metal. Several extra services are also free:

  • Up to eight car, truck or SUV tires
  • Electronics recycling, including computers, printers, computer parts, copiers, DVD and CD players, and up to four TVs or monitors
  • Freon removal from appliances
  • Document shredding

No liquids or chemicals of any kind will be accepted at the lot. Those, along with lithium batteries, can go to the city's household hazardous waste facility at 5576 N. Colony Blvd., which will be open at the same time.

Rules at the gate

The event is for residents of The Colony only, and drivers must show proof of residency such as a utility bill or photo ID. Box vans, trailers longer than 20 feet and contractors are not allowed, and anyone under 18 must be with an adult.

Those coming through can also drop off canned goods, which will go to a local food pantry. Questions go to the city at 972-624-3131.
