A new full-service restaurant serving Jamaican, Haitian and wider Caribbean food is holding its grand opening party Saturday, Oct. 17, in The Colony, CultureMap Dallas reported Thursday.
Coco's Caribbean Haus quietly began serving in September, according to CultureMap. Its address is Suite 135 at 4940 State Highway 121, a strip center whose other tenants include The Yard Milkshake Bar, Tabla Indian and Pepper Thai.
Who is behind it
Founder Marsha Telfer, whose family is Haitian and Jamaican, said in an Instagram video cited by CultureMap that she relocated from New York City to Texas roughly six years ago. She has described the menu as drawing on those islands "plus a little bit of soul food." This is her second North Texas restaurant, the outlet reported.
In 2023 she helped start Reggae Jerk Grill in McKinney.
According to CultureMap, Adrian Telfer leads the kitchen as head chef and is working from Jamaican recipes handed down in his family, while chef Marie Exalus is responsible for most of the Haitian influences. A press release quoted by the outlet says the owners want to bring North Texas food rooted in the cooking traditions of Jamaica, Haiti and the Latin Caribbean.
