The Colony's only early voting site handled 1,004 voters on the first day of in-person early voting Monday, making it one of the busiest polling places in Denton County, according to the county elections office's first-day report.

Countywide, 34,739 people voted in person on Oct. 19 at 54 early voting locations. The report, posted at 6:25 p.m. after polls closed at 5 p.m., does not include mail ballots.

Where the Annex ranked

Only four sites topped The Colony Annex Building at 6804 Main St.:

  • Carrollton Public Library, 1,955
  • Flower Mound Community Activity Center, 1,107
  • South Branch Library in Denton, 1,099
  • Frisco Fire Station No. 7, 1,084

The Annex came in just ahead of the Denton Civic Center (992), the Highland Village Municipal Complex (991) and Corinth City Hall (977).

Voters in Denton County may cast an early ballot at any of the county's sites, so the site count is not the same as the number of The Colony residents who voted.

Council districts

A second county report sorts Monday's in-person voters by district. It lists four entries for the city, The Colony District 3 through District 6, with these first-day totals:

| District | In-person voters, Oct. 19 | Mail ballots returned through Oct. 18 | |---|---|---| | 3 | 269 | 16 | | 4 | 555 | 38 | | 5 | 248 | 22 | | 6 | 260 | 21 |

The city's council contests this fall are for Places 3 through 6, and all four are contested, according to the county's contest list: Brian R. Wade and Eldon J. Pipes in Place 3; Dan McNew, Dan Rainey and Tim Costello in Place 4; Perry Schrag and Matthew Michaelson in Place 5; and Matthew Wheeler and Joel Marks in Place 6.

Countywide, 3,724 mail ballots had come back by the county's Oct. 19 tally.

Hours for the rest of early voting

Sites are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 23. Hours run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. During the final week, Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30, sites are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Applications for a mail ballot must reach the elections office by Friday, Oct. 23. On Election Day, Nov. 3, polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The county posts updated totals by location and by district on its elections site, votedenton.gov, during early voting.
